THE PI STOOL
a backless table stool with a minimalistic design.
Inspired by the math symbol π, this symbol represents simplicity and balance in math, which inspired the stool's design.
Its clean, minimal shape reflects the elegance of the symbol while staying functional and modern.
Design and Manufacturing Obstacle
Initial plan was to make a mold and utilize kerf bending to create the legs for the stool. However, due to time limitation and support issues, this particular manufacturing method is not feasible.
The Solution
CNC identical pieces that follows the outline of the stool legs and stack them to desire width and thickness based on the design.
Flaws
Less efficient, more materials are used, and possible imperfection and unevenness due to human errors when stacking the pieces together.
Manufacturing Method
CNC and ShopBot; Hand assembled and sanded.
Material
Baltic Birch Ply, 3/4" Furniture Grade Plywood.
"I love it, it is very comfortable. I am very happy."
